Abstract

High maternal socio-economic status, neonatal jaundice and low birth weight are associated with a higher risk of non-seminomas testicular cancer. High placental weight suggested an increased risk for seminomas. The team reached their conclusions after analysing the perinatal case notes of 232 testicular cancer patients and 904 matched controls born in 10 Swedish hospitals between 1920 and 1978.

Diskussion

Since the placenta is the main hormone producing organ during pregnancy the placental weight can be related to the level of hormonal exposure in utero.
